Organic foods - Natural Foods

Organic food

Organic food is food that is produced using methods that avoid the use of man-made chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides, growth regulators and livestock feed additives. There are also standards and regulations as to how foods are determined organic. In many developed countries, the term “organic” has a specific legal definition. In the United States for example, all organic certified products must be regulated by an independent agency such as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). To be certified organic, food should not contain any antibiotics or hormones, no irradiation, no genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and no other prohibited materials. Prohibited materials may include, but are not limited to synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and even sewage. When it comes to organic food, regulations and definitions vary from country to country.

Organic food can be classified into two groups: processed food and fresh food. Processed food needs to contain a minimum percentage of organic ingredients and contain no artificial ingredients. More than likely you will find in your local food store genetically modified products. In fact, studies have shown that almost 70% of the food we find in a grocery store are genetically modified to look more appealing. Though disputed, evidence has surface which indicates poor health associated from inorganic food consumption. There is a growing concern about inorganic foods and the unhealthy after effects.

The benefits of organic foods are quite evident. For one, the taste is better. You can perform a comparison taste test with an organic tomato and a inorganic tomato. The taste will be different. Organic food is believed to contain 2-3 times the nutrients that inorganic produce has. According to a new study of corn, strawberries and berries, these fruits and vegetables grown organically show higher levels of cancer-fighting antioxidants than their inorganically grown counterparts. The research also suggests that pesticides and herbicides actually thwart the production of phenolics chemicals that act as a plant's natural defense and also happen to be good for our health.

There are many more benefits of organic food. Once you decide to buy organic food you will notice the difference between genetically modified foods and organic foods. By consuming organically grown natural foods you and your family will enjoy a healthier, happier well-balanced lifestyle.

Organic Foods

Organic foods

I enjoy eating natural and organic food. I feel more energetic,
healthier and have not gotten sick in years thanks to exercise
and a diet of organic food. I firmly believe there are
substantial health benefits to eating organic food which are free
of pesticides and chemicals. Toxicity in foods is deadly! How
much clearer can this be? Yet this is what is being offered to us
by our local supermarkets and restaurants.

I recently read an article about obesity. It stated that by the
year 2010 the number of overweight and obese youngsters in the
European Union nations is expected to hit 26 million. Of these,
an estimated 20,000 obese youngsters will have type 2 diabetes, a
previously adult disease.

Over a million children will show signs of high blood pressure,
raised cholesterol levels or early indicators for cardiovascular
disease.

So the children of today are set to experience many health
problems heading into adulthood. The food and medical industries
will profit tremendously with the surge of new "customers". The
lack of organic food and bad lifestyle habits will create an
ideal candidate for long term medical care.

When it comes to health, people tend to solely rely on the advice
of a physician. There are many wonders to medicine and science,
however doctors make mistakes. It's important to educate yourself
on health and there is no excuse for anyone in today's
information age. Good habits are essential to health and eating
organic food is a great start.

Your body and mind work like great chemical reactors processing
and synthesizing the foods you eat. Unfortunately, years of
neglect, poor nutrition and misinformation about proper health
leave many people feeling tired, worn out and listless. People
are not well informed about organic food. Many of you would be
surprised to discover that you could feel years younger and full
of more vigor and energy than you now have if you add organic
food to your diet.

However, rather than switching to whole organic food ingredients
and a lifestyle modeled after better nutrition, many of us pine
away and accept as "normal" the daily bouts of listlessness and
fatigue that keep us from optimal health. We say it's old age, or
stress, or blame it on something else. One of the best books I
have read on organic living and organic foods can be found by
clicking here.

I strongly believe in eating organic food and living an organic
lifestyle. The key is getting quality information and applying
this information to your daily routine. Organic food is the basis
of proper nutrition.
